We have been hearing a lot about how important it is for us to have these full body scanners or terrorists will blow up planes. Just like we had to take off our shoes or terrorists would blow up planes. And then we couldn’t take mascara on or terrorists would blow up planes. And at every step of the way we give up more of our liberty, comfort and self-respect because the powers that be tell us that’s what it takes to keep us safe.

Guess what? The government can’t keep you safe 100% of the time. Just accept that fact and let’s move on. If the government really wanted you safe they would let you be armed everywhere so you could keep yourself safe. They would let the airlines discriminate and privately handle security so we wouldn’t have to deal with stupid rules from the TSA like “No more than 2 Arab passengers may receive additional scrutiny at any given flight.”

So if it isn’t about keeping us safe what is it about?

Well maybe I’m just a conspiracy nut but it seems like a bit of a conflict of interest when Michael Chertoff is on the news using his Homeland Security credentials to terrify us into a virtual strip search which shall be administered (coincidentally) by a machine which his own company sells for a whopping $130-$170,000 apiece!

Government can never give us a 100% risk-free existence no matter how much control we give over.  What they can give us is a 100% liberty-free existence and that’s exactly where we’re heading.  If you are willing to have these images taken of you when you board a plane what next?  When someone sneaks a stick of dynamite onto a plane stuffed in his rectum, will you then submit like cattle to having your anus examined every time you board a flight?  Because as they tell us (and we keep believing) nothing is too sacred to give up for safety!
