With dedication and the right info, a candidate can win on a shoe string budget.  Block walking allows you to speak directly to voters, something many candidates don’t  bother to do, especially when they are entrenched, long time incumbents.  As a grassroots effort in Texas House District 12, we were able to knock on 7,000 doors in just 11 days with only a handful of dedicated volunteers.  Although we started out in densely populated areas, we finished by going into areas where we were literally the only people who had ever block walked their neighborhoods.  The results?  Our Tea Party candidate won with a margin of victory of 16 points, triumphing over an incumbent who had enjoyed massive bipartisan support for over a decade.

There are multiple factors that ensure a successful block walk campaign:

• Dedicated volunteers who have been well-trained and are prepared to give several hours per week
• Carefully assembled data allowing you to target people who will be likely to vote and save time avoiding those who will not
• A feedback system that allows you to input the results of your block walks and then recall those results for future GOTV and micro-targeting
• A focused and clear message to share
